DIY: Watermelon Lip scrub

DIY: Watermelon Lip scrub

Look, I know in other places in Canada the weather is so much worse right now but here it’s just a moody disaster. Snow and then pouring rain and then a little sun and then just so much snow. ALL. IN. ONE. DAY. I guess the nice part is that you get the perk of snow knowing it will melt and not leave you stranded somewhere but the fluctuation has been absolutely brutal on my face and especially my lips. I can’t completely blame the weather because my lips are pretty much always chapped regardless of weather. Like, always. You will not get the best of me weather! My lips will not be gross and chapped for this last bit of winter. From what I understood lip scrubs aren’t that difficult to make and not super cheap to buy. Perfect project for a DIY! Let’s make some lip scrub!

What You’ll Need:

  • 1 Tbsp  Honey
  • 1 Tbsp Coconut Oil (or other oil)
  • 2 Tbsp White Sugar

These are the basic materials you need to make a lip scrub but you can also add any scent or flavour to your lip scrub. In this regard you can pretty much do whatever you like. I want to try some coco powder and mint essential oil. Get that peppermint mocha lip scrub! But that felt a little advanced so I kept it simple for this first try.

This part is easy peasy measure out your sugar. In a separate bowl combine the honey and whichever oil you chose to use.

I am not a lip scrub expert but I’m pretty sure you’re not supposed to add icing flavouring in the place of essential oils. Too bad I don’t have essential oils so I’m going to go for it. This watermelon flavouring has a bright pink tint to it. This worked out alright since it wasn’t too pigmented once added to the scrub. But just keep in mind if you do add colour it will be on your face and it would be tragic to accidentally dye your face. I’m speaking from experience take my word for it

Coming back to not being a lip scrub expert I went to try it out, took WAY too much, wasn’t going to put it back in the jar, dropped a huge chunk down my shirt, did an awkward dance to get it out while the rest of the scrub went all over my face. Yeah, who would have thought the difficult part of this DIY would be using it. I’m sure you’ll have more luck than me. Just apply a small amount to your lips and scrub gently. Once your done rinse off with warm water and apply your favourite lip balm! There you go happy (not gross) lips!
