Life Aquatic

In case you didn’t know I’m a little obsessed with Wes Anderson films. Since I can’t live in one I decided to dress like I’m in one.

Being a Wes Anderson fan I can’t say why it took me SO long to finally get around to watching the Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. I get that it’s not everybody’s favourite movie, but I LOVED it.

I pretty much immediately hit up my favourite thrift shop and searched it over for a red toque! Cannot believe my luck but at the first look, I found the perfect toque, in the perfect shade of bright red.

But this awesome find presented a new dilemma, My Zissou uniform was incomplete. Back to the thrift store I go……

VOILA! To be honest, at this point I was so proud of my thrifting abilities it definitely went to my head.

BUT I was not yet satisfied. So, thrifting genius that I am, I figured I could totally also be a DIY queen and embroider a logo onto my sweater. Just to make it extra legit. So there would be no misunderstanding that I’m a weirdo that’s a little too obsessed with Wes Anderson most disliked movie.

This is what I did:
1) bought embroidery thread in white, navy blue, and yellow.

2) pencilled out an outline.

3) re-pencilled out an outline because I put it on the wrong side the first time around.

4) realized the pencil outline was super messed up and MAYBE wouldn’t actually wash out and MAYBE I’d just messed up my cute sweater.

5) pushed on with blind optimism using a backstitch to outline the largest Z.

6) cracked a beer because by this point it became apparent my WHOLE family knew how to do this better and I was so unqualified to do this and nothing was really working out.

7) Did like 4 more stitches then stopped and ate some pasta cause I was feeling too overwhelmed by this tiny little beginner level DIY.

Anyways, Somehow it got done. Even more surprising it turned out like what I wanted. There was nothing left to do but wrangle an unsuspecting victim into taking pictures of me.
