Sew Frugal 2022: The Sabina Skirt
Quick little catch-up. Two YouTubers Frugalisima and The Yorkshire Sew Girl run an Instagram sewing competition. The rules are to make a project from fabric you already have in your stash and use a pattern that is available free to everyone. The last thing to do is show off your make! It’s a great way to find some new free sewing patterns as well as use up some lovely fabrics you’ve had stashed away!
My Fabric
Years ago I bought this spring floral print from my local thrift store. I’m not a confident person when it comes to making clothes with patterned fabric. However, I just loved everything about this fabric so I bought it hoping that someday I would figure out what to do with it. I was thinking maybe some sleepwear but it seemed such a shame to make something that couldn’t be worn out and about.
The Sew Frugal challenge was just the push I needed to finally use this gorgeous print!
My Pattern
I’ve been a pair of jeans and a nice top person for just about forever. Might have something to do with growing up in a church that kept trying to force women to wear floor-length skirts. *vomits in my mouth* But that was years ago and I’ve gotten fr away from that place. Now I’m ready to pack away the pants for something pretty and flowing for spring!
The Sabina Skirt from The Little Pomegranate is the perfect pattern for me! It’s a long flowy skirt with a ruffle and big pockets! Did you hear that IT HAS POCKETS! Big pockets! Also, this pattern has very detailed instructions with descriptions of techniques so it is the absolute perfect pattern for a beginner sewist.

Final Product
I love this skirt so much! I’m ready for all the sunshine and blossoming flowers that come with spring. I can’t wait to make the most of it all! Of course, while I’m wearing this Sabina skirt. So happy I took part in this year’s Sew Frugal 22 competition! Can’t wait to see all the other frugal sewing projects other sewists have made!
