DIY: Sunglasses Bag
I am the worst for throwing my glasses, sun and regular, into my bag without a case or bag for protection. Needless to say, I have a lot of scratched glasses. But then! two separate but equally lovely people in my life gave me these squares of pineapple fabric. (They know me so well.) It is amazing and so are they! I needed a project for this fabric and protection for my glasses. Two birds one stone: Sunglasses bag!
What You’ll Need:
- Fabric
- Scissors
- Sunglasses (for measuring)
- String
- Sewing Machine (you could hand sew, but I can’t)
Instead of making a sunglasses bag pattern from the get-go I instead just guess-timated the necessary size based on my particular pair of sunglasses. The plus side of this method is that the sunglasses bag is sure to fit your shades. However, I did also make a pattern for the second sunglasses bag just to have a consistent starting point. The pattern was just a rectangle 8×3.5 inches.
Whichever way you do it the first step is still the same, cut out your two pieces.
Place your fabric pieces with the right sides together and pin the sides. While you’re pinning the fabric make sure to leave about an inch of space at the top that will be for the drawstring.
Sew up the bottom and both sides still leaving a space at the top.
Once you are done sewing snip the corners at the bottom so once you flip it out the corners will look nice. Make sure you don’t cut into your stitches.
Fold down the top part you’ve left unsewn with the hems folded in. Then sew along the bottom of the fold.
For the second bag (I have a lot of glasses) for the string cut a strip of fabric an inch thick and folded it all in to make a thick string. Just fold it all up and use a ton of pins to make sure it doesn’t come undone while you are sewing. Tie off the ends with a knot and it’s done!
Whichever way you go with fold your bag out and loop your string through. Then you’re done with your brand new sunglasses bag! No more scratched glasses. Enjoy this cute pineapple sunglasses bag and clear vision.
