Best of Summer 2022!

Best of Summer 2022!

It’s been one for the books, both wonderful and full of sunshine. This summer has not been without its struggles but here isn’t the place for that kind of talk. This is a place for celebrating all the best of the season. These are humble but they make my heart happy. Hope you enjoy my best of summer 2022!

Ice Cream

I am not an ice cream person, as such, I haven’t eaten the delicious treat in a long time. It’s not that I hate ice cream I just prefer other types of treats. Sometimes you forget how delightful things are when you haven’t had them in a long time. With the crazy heat we had this summer I was convinced to have some ice cream.

OH.

MY.

GOSH.

Call me an idiot but I genuinely forgot how delicious and perfect ice cream is! There was lots of ice cream eaten this summer and it was the best!

Ice Cream Necklace

Ben Choi Ice Cream Necklace

Newly rekindled ice cream love definitely influenced this addition to the best of summer list. These delightful necklaces are designed by Hong Kong jewellery designer Ben Choi who sells them on his website BC Joaillerie. Pearls have always felt so magical to me. I feel this necklace is cutesy but still classy.

Beach Days

If there is one thing I want to do in the summer it is to live at the beach. I grew up by the ocean and something deep inside me doesn’t feel right unless I submerge myself in salt water every so often. My heart is filled up by the amount of time I spent at the beach today. Sometimes the simplest of pleasures are the ones that mean the most.

Pacific National Exhibition

The Vancouver staple can sometimes get disregarded as a peak summer experience. If it was left up to me I would have overlooked it as well. However, my family had planned to go and I wanted more than anything else to spend time with them so I agreed to go. It ended up being one of the best times I have ever had at the PNE.

So many delicious food offerings (also you can get booze there now). We ended up staying super late, saw a lot of shows, ate so much yummy food, walked around, and played mini golf.

Kelowna

With looking for a job and then starting a new job I didn’t have the opportunity to world travel this summer. I did get the chance to go up to Kelowna and visit family. It was a really quick trip but jam-packed with all the best things in life. For the record, I am rating the pool a fraction lower than the time spent with family. I love pools. Sue me.

1990s Throwback

I saw this basic tank at a fast fashion store that shall not be named and the heart beads captured my whole focus. Imagine a quick head whip double take. That’s what I did. These heart beads were a HIGHLY treasured item in my childhood.  Despite how much I loved them back then I have not thought about them in a very long time. Seeing them again brought that spark back and I *almost* bought this top just for that reason. I didn’t buy it but it still made me really happy. I am aware this is a pretty silly thing to make my list but I stand by it.

It’s Corn

Like a lot of people, this internet phenomenon is a huge obsession for me. This single-handedly gave me my yearly quota of serotonin. Just when I think I must be done with this and it couldn’t possibly be gold another video, or sound would pop up and it would make me smile all over again. A kid loving corn shouldn’t have become the best internet trend ever but it did and I am not going to question that.

Outdoor Concerts

Concerts are one of those things I will rarely initiate going to on my own. Someone else going and inviting me along is another story. That’s how this particular summer adventure played out. The city of Coquitlam had an arts festival that included a Dan Mangan outdoor concert.

Additionally, there were also a bunch of food trucks and ice cream. That’s right, this also included my other favourite thing from summer: Ice cream.

Don Chendo

I spent a lot of my childhood living in the Baja peninsula in Mexico. Not living there anymore means I crave a lot of the snacks I ate growing up. Most are impossible to find in the Greater Vancouver Area. At least they were impossible to find…That was until we found Don Chendo! It started with my sister really craving a particular pastry called a Penguino. She did a quick google search and saw the name Don Chendo. It wasn’t too far from where we lived so we took a risk.

Going into Don Chendos is the closest I think I will ever get to the feeling Dorothy had when she first stepped into Oz. All these wonderful things I can only eat if I go all the way to Mexico. If you go here I recommend the Tostito Salsa Verde chips, Krankys, Limon Emperador cookies, Jamaica concentrate, and.. well lots of things!

The Best of Summer

I had such a lovely summer all things considered. I’m still hoping to squeeze in one more beach day before things really get chilly. I hope you all had a lovely summer as well! I’d love to hear all the things that made summer magical for you!
