Scavenger Smoothie

Scavenger Smoothie

On the illustrious road of trying to be a successful adult who eats well and saves money, I stumble more times than I run. Case in point I got so excited about returning from vacation and buying my own groceries that I spent all my grocery budget on one trip. So, I have bananas that are looking worse for wear. I have yoghurt, why did I get yoghurt I don’t even really like yoghurt all that much, that is not bad but it’s days are numbered.

I maybe (definitely) took this harder than I needed to. Felt like a catalyst moment that was proving I have no impulse control and I will never “make it” as one of those put-together grown-ups. So after feeling like a garbage human being for a bit, I decided to try and make the best of my soon-to-be rotting groceries.

What do you know there was a super simple save: scavenger smoothies. I am by nature less hunter-gatherer and more scavenger. So I chopped up bananas and distributed my yoghurt into an ice cube tray, froze them both, and scavenged through my freezer for fruit and some spinach I forgot I bought. Et voila! The makings of a fab smoothie.

After everything was frozen I evenly distributed them into zip-lock bags and popped them back in the freezer. Now what would have been garbage are prepped healthy smoothies that just need to be dropped into a blender with some juice or water. I know this is a silly thing to have so many feelings about but life is silly and so am I.

Can’t help being a little proud that I was able to take an impulse spend / impending waste of money situation and turn it into something that will help me get lovely fruits and veggies when I’m in a rush. I like being reminded that a change in attitude can change a lot.

Would love to hear what your “oh shoot” to “oh wow” revelations have been.  In the meantime, I’m going to be sipping my scavenger smoothie!
