Rice Krispie Birds Nests

Rice Krispie Birds Nests

Happy Easter Everyone! If, like me, its a busy time for you (Easter is a full-on family weekend for me) these Rice Krispie birds nest are a quick and adorable dessert to make! When I was little for a bird themed birthday party (Don’t ask I have no idea how we came up with that one) my mom made Rice Krispie square birds nests. I loved them so much and they’ve always been in the back of my mind to try and make myself. Did my excitement to make this nostalgic treat stop me from procrastinating making it till the very last minute? No, I, of course, left it last minute. Luckily it’s quick and mostly easy.

What You’ll Need:

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 5 cups marshmallows
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies
  • Mini Eggs

I find this whole process is easier and less frantic is I measure out my cereal before starting to melt my marshmallows.

Melt your butter over medium heat on the stove. Once the butter is all liquid add in the marshmallows and stir until melted. Being convinced the marshmallows won’t melt properly is apparently an unavoidable aspect of making Rice Krispie birds nests. Don’t worry if it looks weird and not melty it will all work out. I hope.

Once the mallows are melted add in the pre-measured Rice Krispies and stir frantically while totally forgetting to take pictures. Here is where I made a mistake. You CANNOT grease up your hands enough for the mixture not to stick to you. Just grease a muffin tin and then scoop spoonfuls into each section. Once you have divided out the mixture use a piece of parchment paper and press and shape out your Rice Krispie birds nests.

If you’re in a hurry pop the muffin tin into the fridge for 15-20 minutes. While you wait for them to harden snack away on the little bit extra that wouldn’t fit.

When the Rice Krispie birds nests have firmed up remove them from the muffin tin and fill with the family size bag of mini eggs that were on sale.

Hope you all have a wonderful Easter weekend! Eat all the chocolate!
