BLACK LIVES MATTER
This past couple of weeks have been a wave of almost every emotion imaginable. When George Floyd was murdered by the police it sparked the world into motion. During this time I’ve had to really examine the privilege I live with. It seems careless and cruel to continue posting about my little projects without acknowledging whats happening in the world and making space for the voices of POC.
While I can never understand the experiences of a POC as a person with white privilege there is a responsibility to educate myself and confront the internal biases I have. This site offers many resources for people of privilege to stop harassing their friends and educate themselves.

I know as a Canadian we like to assume that racism doesn’t exist in Canada. We like to hide behind the ‘at least we’re not as bad as the USA’ argument. Neither of these is true racism is alive and active in Canada. It is just as pervasive and ingrained in all aspects of our society. To become the country we want to be we need to not turn away or hide the ugly parts of our society but face them head-on and fight as hard as we can to make this a fair and equal place for everyone.
Alberta is trying to outlaw protesting pipelines which are a deliberate attack against First Nations who are protesting the illegal actions of pipelines.
A current POC MP was thrown out of the commons for calling out racism. The racism itself was not questioned or penalized in any way.
