Best of May 2021

Best of May 2021

At this point, you know the drill. I am trying to focus on gratitude this year so each month I am rounding up ten things that made me smile or brought joy to my life. It may be a little (ok a lot) late but here is my best of may 2021 list!

Best Socks of May 2021

Friday Socks Co

If you’ve known me for a while you might know that I don’t match my socks. I just think it isn’t worth the time so I just keep all my socks loose in a bucket. Plus it’s fun to have odd socks. Additionally, if you have a pair of socks you really love and one gets lost there is nothing stopping you from wearing the other one! Ok, I’ll get off my soapbox now. All of this to say Friday Socks Co intentionally makes ‘mismatched’ socks! I recognized a kindred spirit. If this wasn’t cool enough they created these Alphabet Soup socks that COME IN A SOUP CAN!?! Adorable! They are doing the most and I am here for it.

You can buy your own pair here: Alphabet Soup Socks Can

BEST PATIO OF MAY 2021

Large platter of various seafoods from Joe Fortes

I always love a trip to Joe Fortes, the food is excellent, the staff friendly, and the ambiance is divine. If you are not from Vancouver Joe Fortes is an excellent  Seafood restaurant named after Vancouver’s first official lifeguard. Joe Fortes was born in Trinidad and came to Vancouver in 1884. While he did work as a Bartender at some point he had nothing to do with the restaurant Joe Fortes other than it being named in his honour.

I’ve been to Joe Fortes a couple of times (Not all that many, I am not made of money) but I have never been before been out on their patio. What a lovely treat it was to sit in the sunshine and eat delicious food. I couldn’t be happier.

BEST COOKIE OF MAY 2021

Baby Yoda Cookies

The month of May contains the illustrious holiday Star Wars Day (May the Fourth be with you). While I was looking for some baking ideas I came across this example of baby Yoda cookies on Pinterest. I don’t think there is more to say other than I love everything about this picture and the more I look at it the more I like it.

BEST MEANINGLESS BUT STILL SERENDIPITOUS MOMENT OF MAY 2021

Maybe I am alone in this and I accept that but I hate it when radio stations play songs about specific days when it is not that day. I don’t want to hear Manic Monday at 4 pm on a Wednesday. So when I heard Friday I’m In Love on an actual Friday it made me happy. At least in this chaotic messed-up world something seems to be in line.

BEST NOSTALGIC MOMENT OF MAY 2021

Ice Cream Truck

Picture this, it is just a regular workday when you hear it. That all-familiar song of the ice cream truck. At first, you think you must be imagining things. After all, you are a full-grown adult working your regular job wearing practical shoes. This must be an imagining summoned from the depths of your childhood memory. You go back to the task you were working on. But the sound only gets louder and clearer breaking through the monotony of your capitalist endeavors. There can be no denying it. It is really happening.

You know you have to act quickly, your time is limited before this window of opportunity will slip through your fingers. With a speed, you haven’t summoned since the sixth grade when you had to prove your new shoes DID in fact make you faster you race towards your purse. Throwing things aside with reckless abandon. You know your wallet is there, beneath the bottle of Advil and receipts dating back several years.  Hurry the song of the siren beckons you as it grows closer. AHA! You drag your intended target from the depths of empty gum wrappers, it’s not too late. At this point, your office mates have joined you. No one can resist the sweet melody that promises sweet escape in the form of frozen dairy.

The energy of the room cracks as a fragile hope blooms in the chest of all present. The dignity of the mature world is cast aside as you all cascade out the door. Eyes searching, legs pounding the pavement, it must be here. IT has to be here.

Ba-Dum,

Ba-Dum,

Ba-Dum.

Will we make it in time?

So anyways an ice cream truck came by my work and it was one of the greatest moments of my life.

BEST IMPULSE DECISION OF MAY 2021

Woamn in green tank top with dark hair cut short to chin

For the past while, I couldn’t honestly tell you exactly how long, I just haven’t been feeling much like myself. Felt very lost in the goings on of my life. Everything felt a bit too far out of my control. So I impulsively cut my hair one night in my bathroom. It’s like something clicked into place and reminded me I have options, I don’t need to stay being the same way I was or doing the same things I was doing.

BEST RANDOM THING OF MAY 2021

I was out for a walk and saw the root-knot that I thought looked like a Sloth face. That’s all.

BEST COVD RELATED NEWS OF MAY 2021

Covid19 vaccine may 2021

This month I was able to go and get my first dose of a Covid19 vaccine. I have been waiting for this day for so long. We aren’t out of the woods yet but this feels like the first real step forward we’ve had in a long time.

BEST ACCOMPLISHMENT OF MAY 2021

I won’t go on too much about #MeMadeMay, there are other posts that go into it a bit more. I set myself the challenge to wear one item of clothing that I had made every day for the month of May. I was quite nervous going into things so I had a few cheats in my back pocket. (Underwear I’ve made or scarves that are really just glorified strips of fabric) In a pleasant turn of events, I didn’t have to resort to these measures. I truly did wear one item of clothing I have made every single day. Here are a few of my favourite looks from the month.

Shout out to free patterns from Mood Fabric! I took a risk on this Mimosa Dress from Mood Fabric. Cozy jersey dress that looks fancy enough to wear to work? Yes, please.

How could you not love a basic Zadie Jumpsuit from Paper Theory?

Last, but not least, I hacked this Peppermint Playsuit.

Well, there you have it, my random list letting you all know the best of May for me. Hope you enjoyed it. I know I did.

p.s. here is last months list!
